What's new in Salt & Temper.

v0.24.0

August 2026

Two new ways of eating to aim at, fiber now shown on every recipe, a clearer net carb breakdown, and a new page where you can turn off ad measurement.

  • Two new lifestyles to aim at. Mediterranean holds your fat target and steers where each macro comes from, favoring olive oil, nuts and seeds for fat, fish and legumes for protein, and whole grains and vegetables for carbs. High fiber steers swaps toward legumes, intact whole grains, vegetables, and seeds, then shows you the fiber the dish actually lands on. Each has its own page explaining the split and how the swaps are chosen.
  • Fits your macros is now called Balanced. Same flexible split and the same behavior, just a name that says what it does. Your saved links to the old page still work and land on the new one.
  • Fiber is now on the panel for every recipe. It sits under carbohydrate the way a nutrition label does it, so you can see the fiber a dish delivers without hunting for it.
  • The net carb breakdown shows its work. When you count net carbs, the panel now shows the total carbs and the fiber subtracted from them right beneath the net figure, so the arithmetic behind the number you are scored on is there to read instead of left to infer.
  • You can turn off advertising measurement. A new Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page, linked in the footer, lets you opt out of the advertising pixel we use to measure whether our ads work. Your browser's Global Privacy Control signal is honored automatically, opting out takes effect immediately in the page you are on, and we never send an advertiser your recipe text, your email address, or your macro targets.
  • A clearer starting point. The homepage now leads with one action instead of asking you to choose between two, so the first thing to do is obvious.

v0.21.2

August 2026

Ground spices like coriander match the right form, and a close call between two nearly identical foods is now flagged for you to confirm instead of quietly counting as a sure thing.

  • Ground spices match the form you cook with. Ground coriander now grounds to coriander seed, the warm spice in the jar, instead of fresh cilantro leaf, and ground ginger and ground mustard are handled the same way. When you name the fresh form on purpose, like fresh ginger or fresh coriander, it still matches the fresh food.
  • More honest when two foods are nearly identical. When an ingredient falls right between two very close USDA entries and the usual tiebreaker cannot settle which one you meant, that line is now flagged for you to confirm instead of presenting an even match as a certain one. The line still counts toward your totals; it just no longer claims a confidence it does not have.
  • Behind-the-scenes security maintenance. We updated a number of underlying components to clear known security advisories, with no change to how the site works for you.

v0.21.1

July 2026

Everyday kitchen staples and a batch of common and international foods now match the right food, and pasting a recipe over the starting example is cleaner.

  • Everyday staples now match the everyday version. Milk grounds to cow's milk instead of sheep's milk, plain and Greek yogurt, mozzarella, and cottage cheese match their standard whole-milk forms rather than odd nonfat or flavored variants, and baking soda counts as a leavening at almost no calories instead of being read as baking chocolate. Specialty forms you name on purpose, like almond milk, part-skim mozzarella, or nonfat yogurt, are left exactly as you wrote them.
  • More common and international foods ground correctly. Plain hamburger now reads as ground beef rather than pickle relish, beef tallow and duck fat count as the rendered fats they are, agave grounds to agave syrup, fresh salsa and pico de gallo match a real fresh salsa instead of a sweet or cheesy stand-in, more noodle types like udon and glass noodles match the right noodle, and cassava is counted rather than skipped. Indian cooking aromatics are handled too, with a neutral oil default and correct matches for dried red chilies, mustard seed, curry leaves, and asafoetida.
  • Pasting a recipe over the starting example is cleaner. Clicking into the example and pasting now replaces it instead of adding your recipe onto the end, and a paste that carries no text, such as an image, no longer wipes the box and leaves it empty. The example is always recoverable with Start over.
  • Smaller fixes. On a narrow phone screen the Was, After, and Target columns no longer crowd or overlap, and the feedback option reliably returns when you step back to a previous result.

v0.21.0

July 2026

More accurate macros across more cuisines, recipes you paste from a link now keep their name, and a clearer first step.

  • Everyday staples from more kitchens now match the right food. Indian dals like toor, chana, moong, masoor, and urad used to go uncounted, which could drop the main protein of a dish; they now ground to the correct pulse. Oatmeal no longer reads as an oatmeal cookie, zucchini noodles and almond milk match the vegetable and the milk instead of a fried noodle dish or a handful of whole almonds, and breadcrumbs, savory buns, butter lettuce, and the difference between a rich stock and a lighter broth are all handled correctly.
  • Paste a recipe link and it keeps the dish name. The title now shows on your result, on the printable card, and on the recipe you save, so a loaded recipe is no longer left untitled.
  • The first step is easier to follow. Recompute with my macros is now the primary action, right where you finish editing, and the batch serving scaler is tucked behind a quiet Scale this recipe toggle so it is there when you want it and out of the way when you do not.
  • A correction you make in the first step now carries into the second. If you fix an ingredient that matched the wrong food, your correction stays put and no longer reappears in the list of what changed, so the before and after you compare is the one you intended.

v0.20.0

July 2026

Step back to the result you liked better, see at a glance when a number is our documented estimate, and more accurate macros for bones, orzo, and dry goods.

  • Went one change too far? When you apply changes a second time, a new Back to previous result button brings the earlier version back exactly as it was, including any label macros you had entered, so you can compare directions without redoing your analysis or your target.
  • Numbers that are our own documented estimates now say so. A few specialty foods have no USDA entry at all, for example manchego, gochujang, and shirataki noodles. Those lines now carry a small estimated badge with a plain explanation, so a curated estimate can never read as a verified USDA match. You can always override one with the numbers from your own label.
  • Beef bones now count as the stock they yield. A bones line used to match rib meat and could add more than a thousand calories to a recipe; it now grounds to the broth those bones actually contribute, so soup and stock recipes stay honest.
  • Volume-measured orzo is right. A cup of orzo now converts using a real package weight instead of a generic assumption that ran about 40 percent heavy, and ingredients counted in their dry form are now labeled dry rather than raw, so the basis behind each number reads the way a cook thinks.

v0.19.0

July 2026

A new page that shows exactly how we test our numbers, and noticeably more accurate macros on the ingredients that trip up other tools.

  • A new How we test accuracy page shows the work behind every number. It walks through where our macros come from, what we do when an ingredient cannot be verified, and the several independent checks each recipe passes before you see it, with a real recipe grounded line by line. Find it in the footer or at saltandtemper.com/accuracy.
  • Macros are more accurate on the ingredients that quietly trip up other tools. A pound of dry pasta is now read as dry, not cooked, so its carbs are right; count-measured items like noodles and dinner rolls no longer vanish from the total; and common pantry items match the correct food instead of a plausible wrong one, for example grated parmesan now matches real parmesan rather than a fat-free topping, and mustard powder matches ground mustard seed rather than mustard greens.
  • Brand-name and regional foods are handled more honestly. Many more now ground to the right entry, and when a specific packaged product cannot be verified, the line is flagged and left out of the total instead of quietly counting as zero, so the headline number stays trustworthy.
  • We test our own numbers harder. New checks compare each recipe against an independent estimate, enforce rules that must always hold, and hunt for the silent mistakes that pass ordinary tests, so we catch errors in our own data before they reach you.

v0.18.0

July 2026

Honest answers when a dish cannot hit your targets, steadier numbers at the edges, and fair behavior when the kitchen is busy.

  • When a target is out of reach for a dish, Step 2 now says so plainly. Some combinations are structural: a fully plant-based lasagna can only get so close to strict keto numbers no matter what is swapped. Instead of presenting a near miss as almost there, the result now explains what is standing in the way, so you can decide whether to adjust the target or the dish.
  • Serving estimates no longer wobble at the halfway mark. When a recipe does not state its servings, the engine estimates them from the dish size. A rounding quirk exactly at the halfway point could double or halve the per-serving numbers for certain recipes; estimates now round the way a cook would, so the per-serving math stays steady.
  • Small things now read correctly. Scaling a recipe slightly no longer prints oddities like 1 cups; a change in amount alone, say 1 cup of rice becoming 2 cups, no longer appears in the swap list as if rice replaced rice; and when a label-basis ingredient line becomes ambiguous after a rescale, the result flags it for your confirmation instead of quietly picking one reading.
  • Busy moments are handled honestly. If many people run recipes at the same instant, the site now says so and asks you to try again in a few seconds, instead of slowing everyone down. And a capacity condition that could previously interrupt runs mid-flight during a rush has been closed, so a run you start finishes.
  • Unsubscribe machinery is in place before we ever send a campaign. When waitlist updates begin, every email will carry a working one-click unsubscribe backed by a clear confirmation page, and your choice is remembered permanently. We built and tested it now so the first update we ever send already respects it.

v0.17.0

July 2026

Enter macros straight from a food label, see amounts in US or metric, and print a recipe card with the full macro table.

  • Enter macros straight from the label. When an ingredient cannot be matched to USDA data, you can now type in the label's numbers together with the serving size printed on that label, and the engine scales them to the amount your recipe actually uses. The ingredient's badge then echoes how your line was read, for example: We read this line's amount as 2 cups, so you can check the math at a glance.
  • See amounts your way. A new Show amounts control displays ingredient amounts and oven temperatures in US or metric units, whichever you cook in, and As written always brings back the original text.
  • The printed recipe card now carries a real macros table: per serving and whole recipe side by side, a fiber row when fiber is known, and the carb row honestly labeled Net carbs when that is the basis you chose.
  • The list of swaps only ever names real changes. A rare case where an ingredient the engine had not changed could still appear under Swapped in is fixed, so the summary and the recipe always agree.
  • The Privacy Policy is more precise. It now names each service provider we rely on and describes exactly how analytics behaves, including what changes when account features arrive.

v0.16.0

July 2026

Honest expectations for vegan keto dishes, the site icon restored, and browser protections switched from watching to blocking.

  • Choosing Low-Carb and Keto together with Vegan now sets expectations honestly. Plant proteins bring carbs of their own, so fully vegan keto dishes often land close to the carb target rather than exactly on it. A short note now appears beside your dietary choices to say so, and the engine keeps aiming for your full target all the same.
  • The Salt & Temper icon is back in your browser tab. A formatting slip made the tab icon invisible in many browsers. It is fixed, and bookmarks and phone home screens now get a proper icon too.
  • Browser protections now block instead of just watching. The security policy introduced in v0.15.1 ran in report-only mode while we proved it safe; it now actively stops the attack categories it was watching for, such as script injection and click-jacking, with no change to how the site works for you.

v0.15.1

July 2026

Clearer waitlist confirmations, stronger browser protections, and faster fixes when something breaks.

  • Joining the waitlist now confirms itself clearly. The success message appears as a highlighted panel that screen readers announce, so you always know your spot is held and your confirmation email is on the way.
  • Stronger protections in your browser. The site now ships modern security headers that instruct your browser to block whole categories of attack, part of our security-first commitment as membership features approach.
  • Problems reach us before you have to report them. The site now reports errors to our monitoring the moment they happen, including the kinds that ad blockers used to hide, so fixes land faster.

v0.15.0

July 2026

Plain pricing you can read before you join, and our refund promise in writing.

  • See the pricing before you join. The new Pricing page lays out the membership like a nutrition label: one plan at $9.99 a month or $69.99 a year, exactly what a month includes, and what a top-up costs if you have a bigger month. The 14-day free trial opens with early access; joining the waitlist holds your spot.
  • Our refund promise, in writing. A new Refund Policy commits to a 14-day refund window on every charge, no reason needed, and explains the difference between cancelling and refunding. You will find it in the footer, next to Terms and Privacy.
  • Clearer legal pages. The Terms now name the company behind Salt & Temper (Stratford Digital LLC), spell out how memberships, trials, and renewals will work, and the Privacy Policy explains that payments will be handled by Stripe, our payments partner. Your full card number never reaches us.

v0.14.0

July 2026

Step 2 shows everything up front, results are honest when a swap cannot be measured, and printing gives you a clean recipe card.

  • See all of Step 2 before you start. Every lifestyle, dietary option, and target is visible from your first visit, with a note to run Step 1 first; the controls unlock the moment your analysis is ready. Target boxes stay blank until real numbers exist, so a placeholder can never read as your own.
  • Honest when a swap cannot be measured. If the engine proposes an ingredient it cannot ground in USDA data, the result now flags it plainly and the engine tries again, instead of quietly counting it as zero.
  • The swap summary only names real changes. It no longer mentions ingredients your final recipe does not contain.
  • Printing gives you a clean recipe card. The print view now produces a compact card with the dish title, not a stack of mostly blank pages.
  • Start over when you want to. Both steps now have a Start over button that clears the run so you can begin fresh.
  • Truer carb counts for chipotle and ancho dishes. Chiles in adobo are now grounded on real product label data, fixing a carb undercount.
  • Recipes with garbled ingredient markup now parse correctly. Some sites ship two ingredients merged into one line; the engine now repairs the seam instead of mis-reading the line.
  • Refreshed guide screenshots and cleaner copy across the site.

v0.13.0

July 2026

Keto counts net carbs by default, the site matches your device theme, and plant-based dishes hit their protein targets.

  • Choosing Low-Carb and Keto now counts net carbs for you. Keto plans track net carbs (total minus fiber), so the carb-counting toggle turns on automatically when you pick the preset. Your own choice always wins: flip the toggle either way, at any point, and the preset never overrides you. On our test kitchen of six dishes, five now hit their keto targets end to end on this basis.
  • The site opens in your device's theme. If your phone or computer is set to dark mode, your first visit is dark from the very first moment, with no white flash. Pick a theme with the toggle and that choice sticks on every visit after, on top of any account preference.
  • Vegan and vegetarian conversions reach their protein targets far more often. The engine now swaps in dense plant proteins such as seitan, tempeh, and textured soy protein instead of only adding more tofu, and it offers seitan only when gluten-free is not selected. Dishes like green curry and tinga tacos that used to fall short on protein now land on target.
  • The engine's explanations read cleanly. Stray backslash characters no longer appear in the reasoning, and paragraphs break where the engine intended them to.

v0.12.0

July 2026

A sharper second look at every ingredient match, a clearer guide to locked macros, and polish across the demo.

  • Every ingredient match gets its second look again. A safeguard that double-checks each ingredient against its USDA match was being skipped in most runs because of a bug. It now runs as designed, so a doubtful match is flagged for you to confirm instead of counting quietly. We found this by testing the engine on a batch of favorite dishes, and fixing it made the numbers you see even more trustworthy.
  • The guide now explains locked macros properly: what a lock is, why choosing a lifestyle like Low-Carb and Keto locks its anchor macro for you, and why Fits-your-macros locks nothing on purpose.
  • Easier to spot and easier on the eyes. The Adjust serving size button now stands out on the finished recipe, and the loading indicator sits cleanly beside its message while the engine works.
  • One optional question when you join early access: have you tried using a chatbot for recipe macros? One tap, skippable, and it helps us focus on what the guesswork leaves missing.
  • The Privacy Policy and Terms now carry their effective date, July 16, 2026.

v0.11.0

July 2026

Net-carb targets aim true, your work survives a refresh, and more room to explore the demo.

  • Net-carb targets start from the right number. With net carbs on, your carb target now seeds from net carbs (total minus fiber), the same basis the engine scores against. Fibrous dishes no longer start from a total-carb number that could steer the engine the wrong way, and flipping the toggle updates a default target to match.
  • Your work survives a refresh. The recipe, its analysis, a proposal under review, and your finished result now stay with the tab, so an accidental reload or hitting the demo limit mid-flow no longer wipes an almost-finished result. Come back and pick up where you left off.
  • More room to explore. The hourly demo allowance is doubled, enough for two full re-engineers, with a new daily allowance to keep things fair for everyone. And when you do reach a limit, the message now tells you roughly how long to wait.
  • Honest about estimated amounts. When a volume measurement cannot be grounded in USDA portion data, the line is labeled as a closest estimate you can adjust, instead of quietly counting at full confidence.
  • Dark mode is easier to read. Buttons and selected options now use dark text on the bright green, meeting accessibility contrast standards in both themes.
  • The privacy policy now spells out session replays, feedback storage, and the providers we use.

v0.10.0

July 2026

Net carbs for keto and low-carb, a cleaner recipe-card result, and servings you can adjust.

  • Count net carbs. For keto and low-carb targets you can now count net carbs, which subtracts fiber from the total the way most low-carb plans track them. It is a simple toggle in Step 2, off by default so the stricter total-carb count stays the standard. This alone lets far more low-carb recipes reach their target.
  • More low-carb and plant-based recipes land on your macros. The engine reaches for the right swaps more often, including dense plant proteins for vegan and vegetarian targets, so results hit the numbers without losing the dish.
  • Honest about big changes. When hitting a target means swapping a defining ingredient, like noodles for zucchini in a keto lasagna, the result now tells you plainly that the dish was changed, so a re-engineered version never poses as the original.
  • A result you can read like a recipe card. The re-engineered recipe leads with the dish and how many it serves, and the page brings you to the top of the recipe when it is ready, so you are not left scrolling to find it.
  • Adjust servings on demand. Serving size sits at the top of the recipe with an Adjust serving size button, so the rescaler is there when you want it and out of the way when you do not.
  • Clearer reasoning and method. The engine's explanation and the revised steps read cleanly, with stray formatting and odd characters removed, and a clearer sense that the engine is still working while it runs.
  • The guide and FAQ now explain net carbs and how the carb-counting option works.

v0.9.0

July 2026

More honest results, a clearer results panel, and a smoother demo on every screen.

  • When the engine holds the macros you locked but cannot reach the others, the result now says so plainly, instead of showing a full win above numbers that fell short. Any macro that misses your target is marked so it reads clearly even in black and white.
  • The re-engineered results panel is clearer. It shows the dish name, keeps your recipe's own starting numbers as the before figure the whole way through, and explains the small gap between label calories and the calories added up from the macro grams.
  • Smoother final steps. The engine's reasoning reads cleanly, only the button you actually press shows Working while it runs, and you can undo an ingredient match you picked to go back to the engine's own choice.
  • Works well on a phone. The demo no longer drifts sideways on a narrow screen, and the ingredient breakdown keeps every column within reach.
  • A calmer ingredient breakdown. Each line now has a single quiet Adjust control that opens the other USDA matches and your own macros together, so the table stays focused on the numbers.
  • Easier to get around. On larger screens the Guide, Lifestyles, About, and FAQ pages are one click away in the header, and the top bar stays tidy on a phone.
  • More ingredients count against the right food. Compound names like white wine vinegar, whole chicken breast, and sesame seed buns no longer borrow another food's numbers, an uncooked grain is measured dry rather than cooked, and common canned staples use realistic can and jar weights.
  • Join early access right where you finish. After a successful re-engineer you can add yourself to the early-access list without leaving the page.

v0.8.0

July 2026

Start from a link, see every ingredient match, and far more accurate results.

  • Start from a link. Paste a recipe URL and we read the ingredients right off the page, then hand them to the same grounded macro breakdown. Pasting still works exactly as before, and if a page cannot be read we tell you and you just paste instead.
  • See and adjust every ingredient. Each ingredient now shows the exact USDA food it matched, and you can correct a match or enter your own numbers when you know the food better.
  • Pick cooked or dry when it matters. For ingredients that mean very different things depending on how they are measured, like polenta, we now ask instead of guessing.
  • Many more ingredients match the right food. Keto and gluten-free staples like coconut flour, pork rinds, shirataki noodles, psyllium husk, chia and flax seeds, and zero-carb sweeteners, plus cheeses like paneer and halloumi, now count against accurate macros instead of being skipped or mismatched.
  • Tell us when a result misses. A quick feedback option on your re-engineered recipe lets you flag anything that looks off, so we can keep sharpening the matches.
  • A new FAQ page answering the common questions about how the macros are grounded and what the engine can and cannot do.

v0.7.0

July 2026

Easier to read and use for everyone, with smarter dietary checks.

  • The whole app is easier to read and use, with stronger text contrast, a skip-to-content link, keyboard-friendly controls, and clearer labels for screen readers.
  • Plant-based meat alternatives like vegan chicken and plant-based ground beef are now recognized as compliant, instead of being flagged by mistake.
  • More careful vegan checks, so a meatless or meat-free product is no longer assumed to be vegan, because it can still contain egg or dairy.
  • Fewer false conflicts when an ingredient match is uncertain, so the dietary check only flags what it can stand behind.

v0.6.0

July 2026

Your dietary choices are now guaranteed by the engine, not just suggested.

  • Pick gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan and the engine checks every swap, keeping anything off-limits out of the result instead of leaving it to the AI to remember.
  • If a recipe cannot be made to fit while staying a real dish, we say so plainly and never quietly slip in an off-limits ingredient.
  • You see any conflict while you review the proposed swaps, so you can adjust before you commit.
  • Better recognition of everyday plant foods, so ingredients like oyster mushrooms and nutritional yeast are correctly treated as vegan.

v0.5.0

June 2026

A clearer, steadier re-engineering step.

  • If the engine hits a snag while re-engineering, you now see an honest note and your original recipe, instead of a confusing result that looks like it tried.
  • Steadier results on recipes with hard-to-match ingredients, so the engine course-corrects better toward your target.

v0.4.0

June 2026

More reliable macro targeting and more accurate ingredient matching.

  • Re-engineering reaches your macro targets more reliably, especially on recipes that used to land just outside the range.
  • More everyday ingredients match the right food, so garlic powder, ground ginger, arborio rice, and dry white wine now count against the correct macros.
  • A little more room to explore the demo before the hourly limit.

v0.3.0

June 2026

A faster, steadier demo, more ingredients recognized, and a cleaner header.

  • The demo starts faster and stays warm, so you wait less for the engine to be ready.
  • A friendlier note if the engine is briefly warming up or unavailable, instead of a raw error.
  • More specialty and international ingredients now resolve to grounded macros instead of being skipped, including mascarpone, prosciutto, gochujang, and mirin.
  • A tidier header, with the menu button on the left where you would expect it, and the How it works steps lined up cleanly.

v0.2.0

June 2026

New pages to learn the product, a navigation menu, and sharper macro accuracy.

  • A new About page and a step-by-step User guide, so you can see how the macros are grounded and how to use both steps.
  • A navigation menu in the header to move between Home, the guide, and the lifestyles from any page.
  • Sharper accuracy: ground spices like cumin, coriander, cardamom, and turmeric, plus stocks and broths, now match the right USDA food.
  • A clearer message when you reach the free demo limit, with a nudge to the waitlist.
  • Tell us how you heard about us when you join the waitlist, and reach us anytime through the new feedback link in the footer.
  • A friendlier page when a link cannot be found.

v0.1.0

June 2026

The first public release. Paste a recipe, get macros you can trust, and re-engineer the dish to your targets.

  • Paste any recipe and get verified per-serving macros, grounded in USDA FoodData Central data and computed by deterministic code, never guessed.
  • Re-engineer a recipe to hit your protein, carb, and fat targets with grounded ingredient swaps, then a rewritten method to match.
  • Five nutrition lifestyles: Original, Low-Carb and Keto, Ketovore, High protein, and Fits-your-macros, each with its own macro split and swap style.
  • Lock the macros you care about so the engine holds them while it adjusts the rest.
  • Gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan toggles, plus include or exclude specific ingredients.
  • Honest about its limits. When a USDA match is uncertain it says so and asks, rather than reporting a number it cannot stand behind.
  • A dark mode, and a clean results panel you can print.
